Seeds starting their journey
”The portion of cheese, hard boiled egg, and the sesame seeds where a well balanced protein punch! They brought that creamy and nutty aspect. Especially when you blended the salad dressing with the whole salad and the yoke of the egg softened and lightly coated the variety of lettuces and greens. The salad dressing really brightened it. [Chipotle Agave] I normally shy away from something too spicy as it kills the taste buds making one unable to really get the full impact of all of the other flavors. But, the "heat" in the dressing is perfect.”
While part of the language of the state code is sited, a highly relevant and final sentence of the state code was left out completely and was not addressed. The statement in the state code that follows point #3, is:
"Restaurant" does not include any place manufacturing packaged or canned foods that are distributed to grocery stores or other similar retailers for sale to the public.”

Each week we handcraft and manufacture a different salad kit for subscribers. We prepare the product in the farms VA Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services certified kitchen and personally deliver it to you with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Each salad kit is:
Our subscription is simple. Once you opt in, we will confirm your order and deliver your recurring order each week we are delivering until you tell us to stop.
Subscriptions are simply a trust based commitment for a repeating order each week. Subscribing helps us forecast and plan our crops and with other farmers.
If for whatever reason you can‘t receive a salad in a week there are options.
Subscribers also get priority when ordering extra items that we advertised in our weekly email each Monday.
We package the salad kits so they stay fresh a long time when kept refrigerated. Because it was grown locally, it stays fresh longer than what you may be used to with store bought salad kits. Those salad kits are often smaller and are packaged with lettuce grown by large agriculture and manufacturing companies on the west coast and then shipped across the county. Our salad kits use local salad greens picked at the peak of freshness, manufactured, and delivered within days of harvest.
Our salad kits are labeled according to VDACS requirements for all fresh, prepackaged food with a sell by date 7 days from the date of manufacturing on our farm.
We deliver Direct to Consumer including homes, office buildings, hospitals, etc. If there are any specific instructions we should know please let us know. Some customers, when they know they may be away or unable to meet us will leave a small cooler with an ice pack in a shady spot for us to place the salad in.
As many deliveries as possible will be delivered without contact. Our standard procedure will be as follows:
According to the FDA, there is no evidence of food or food packaging being associated with transmission of COVID-19. Link While this is good I encourage you to take precaution with the packaging of all deliveries you may be receiving, not just from us.
Please know we are doing everything we can to maintain the safety of the products we are growing, preparing and delivering from our farm(s) to you.
Shorter Supply Chain. There are fewer touch points with locally grown produce and manufacturing. Salad Kits you buy in a grocery store are grown and manufactured by large companies and travel greater distances. As a result they are also exposed to many people before they arrive in the store, only then to be handled by store employees and other customers before ending up in your cart.
Smaller businesses mean fewer people. From seed to bowl, less than 10 people have ever been around the greens we serve in our salad kits. Our farms are small and are not open to the general public as restaurants and grocery stores are.
Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) and ServSafe Certifications. These certifications are in place to ensure food safety from the grower to the kitchen. Included in both of these programs are regular sanitary measures and the use of gloves at all times. In fact the lettuce in your salad has never be touched by an un-gloved hand and these certifications and practices have always been in place!
People sometimes ask why so much for a salad? First, take into account that the greens in the salad are locally grown year round in a protected environment, harvested, prepared and delivered within days by your local farmers.
We're not just talking veggies here either. Each salad is different, but they all include more than just vegetables. They include grains, fruits, cheeses, and nut and each one comes with a farm made scratch dressing paired to match.
It's a big bowl! Salad kits weigh between 15-17 oz, and the bowl they are served in is advertised as a 'family size' bowl. Most customers get 2 even 3 meals from a single salad. See Reviews
All of this and it's delivered directly to you at no additional cost! Hopefully this helps justify paying for quality and service at the height of taste and nutrition.
If our chosen ingredients don’t tempt you taste buds one week, you can easily opt for a garden salad and still be eating healthy and local that week. You can also choose to pay it forward (see options above).
Let us know and you can easily pause your delivery and we will start delivery again when you return.
In weeks where the main grain ingredient contains Gluten, we swap the Salad of the Week order for a Garden Salad, which is the same bowl and has all the same ingredients except it is a layering of veggies instead of the grain mixture on top. Some customers even prefer this version and subscribe to receive the garden salad each week in place of the Salad of the Week. In weeks where just the crunch contains gluten (e.g. pita crouton, tortilla chip), we just swap that individual component out with a seed, nut, or fruit cup in its place.
The only variation of our salads are do to the Major Food Allergens.
Each week our salad contains a serving of Dairy and in some weeks Nuts. These are packaged either in a separate cup (Feta Crumbles, Toasted Nuts), or placed on top as cubes, sticks, or balls (Cheddar, Mozzarella). If you request a Dairy Free or Nut Free variation of our salad, we will place a Sticker on top of the label, indicating the modification helping both our delivery drivers and you to highlight the allergen variation. In place of the dairy or nut we will substitute a cup of crunch, dried fruit, or other complimentary component.
Since we are not a restaurant or food truck we cannot accommodate personalized made-to-order requests. We can offer a standard (but still super fresh and delicious!) garden salad option each week as an alternative to the weekly featured salad kit. Since our salads are packaged as a kit, the layers are separated for easy division. For example, salads without any onions are a typical request we get and most that have asked for this have not had a problem picking the few onions out and are typically used to doing this already!
Basically there are two types of orders, a "standing" order that repeats each week (e.g. salad and extra dressing cup), and a "weekly extra" order (e.g. can you bring eggs this week?).
When sending an order update it's helpful to clarify if you'd like the order to repeat each week or if it is only for a single week. Please do not send order updates through a payment note, we will likely not catch those until after the deliveries are completed.
Over 95% of the lettuce consumed in the US is grown on the west coast by 'industrial produce farms'.
That means it travels over 2,800 miles and takes close to 2 weeks from harvest to reach Virginia.
Research shows that darker lettuces contain more antioxidants and nutrients than the typical lighter-colored lettuce found in stores.
Each week we offer a garden salad option in place of a salad-of-the week order. This is a great option for someone on a restricted diet or with food allergies.
The garden salad is typically made with the same produce in the weekly salad and contains the same crunch, cheese, and Farm Made dressing.
Some customers choose to receive a Garden Salad each week, others let us know on a week-to-week basis if they would like a Garden Salad instead of the Salad-of-the-Week.
